Has anyone experienced melanoma spreading to the lungs just two months after stage 1 removal?
While it's uncommon for stage 1 melanoma to spread so quickly, melanoma can behave unpredictably. Stage 1 melanomas are typically confined to the skin and haven't spread to lymph nodes, which is why surgery alone is often the only treatment needed.
However, melanoma can spread to the lungs in some cases. Research shows that lung metastasis can occur in a significant percentage of people with metastatic melanoma, and it has been documented to happen even more than 10 years after the original diagnosis.
If you're experiencing symptoms like a new or persistent cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, or coughing up blood, it's important to contact your healthcare team right away. These could be signs that warrant further investigation.
Your oncologist can perform imaging tests and other evaluations to determine what's happening. Early detection of any recurrence or spread can improve outcomes and help guide your treatment plan.

I had a mole removed in 2013 directly above my right lung. I then had flesh under the skin removed as well as two lymph nodes. All clear. Then 4 years later I had an apple sized melanoma tumor and 1/3 of my right lung removed. Then opdivo 6 months, then opdivo and yervoy for 5 months. Lost 105 pounds and fought Guillane Barre Syndrome. Cancer free since May 31, 2019.

I had melanoma on back of neck. The cancer was removed by surgery, along with the nearest gland (no cancer present). What what? More than 2 years later (PET scan) detected spot on right lung. Had surgery to remove. I am now ready for 3ard infusion of Opdivo. I am unusually tired and some rash, but that’s all.
